Brass seems to be the luxe material of the moment. Leica had recently launched the Brass Edition 35 camera in collaboration with The Hour Glass, and this time we have brass earphones, thanks to the clever orchestration of Squeeze Design’s founder and director Patrick Chia.

A self-confessed audiophile, Chia—who is also founding director of the Design Incubation Centre (NUS)—was “inspired by my favourite bar in the world, a traditional craft company I have admired for a long time, a young craft company that should not have existed, and my favourite pair of earphones.”

Enter the Dita Brass Edition—the result of a collaboration between D. Bespoke bar and gallery at Bukit Pasoh, Kyoto-based Kaikado which creates handmade ceramics and teaware, as well as homegrown companies, The J.Myers Company and Dita Audio.

Since the Ginza-style artisanal cocktail bar opened, its gallery at the entrance has carried exclusive items from tailor-made shoes to beautifully handcrafted homeware. Now it adds high-end audio to its inventory.

The Dita Brass Edition comes with a J.Myers Company leather pouch and a Kaikado tea cannister.

“Daiki San [Kanetaka, owner of D. Bespoke] asked me to ask Danny [Tan of Dita Audio] if it would be possible to carry Dita products in his shop at the front of the bar,” says Chia. “Seeing an opportunity to do something together, I suggested a special collaboration project… a brass version as it matches the atmosphere of the bar. But more selfishly, I was deeply tantalised by the sonic difference the brass housing will bring to my favourite earphones.”

The use of brass is said to help with a thorough seal when worn because of its weight, and would give a better frequency response to improve the listening experience.

In true bespoke fashion, each set of Brass Edition earphones comes with a J.Myers’ handcrafted leather pouch and a Kaikado brass canister, so that you’re always sure these brass babies are stored in style.

There are only 20 sets of the Dita Brass Edition, available at D. Bespoke, 2 Bukit Pasoh Road.
