Sime Darby Property strives to lay a foundation towards a better tomorrow, not only for the planet but also for the wellbeing and progress of society. Through structured management systems and practices, the property developer executed its 2030 Sustainability Goals. It fulfilled 12 out of the 18 goals in 2022, and continues to focus on reducing carbon footprint throughout its operations.
Sime Darby Property recognises the importance of conserving urban biodiversity and creating resilient ecosystems where humans and nature can coexist and thrive. Since 2011, the property developer has planted more than 25,000 trees that are currently facing the extinction threat and prioritises the creation of functional ecosystems to restore biodiversity into the urban fabric. The developer also established the Elmina Rainforest Knowledge Centre (ERKC) and partnered with the Tropical Rainforest Conservation and Research Centre to promote conservation, research, and environmental education. And since 2021, ERKC has successfully engaged 10,775 individuals via 145 programmes thus far.
These are seen in the property group's developments such as Serenia and the beautiful KL East Park. In fact, the 53-acre KL East Park is connected to the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge, renowned as the world’s longest quartz formation, and is home to more than 130 bird species and 300 flora species.
Additionally, the company prioritises shaping inclusive and resilient communities, collaborating with Yayasan Sime Darby—the company's philanthropic arm—on various initiatives benefiting over 50,000 individuals. Sime Darby Property engages in community recycling programmes, and has already recorded over 2,200 employee volunteer hours as well as launched an inclusive playground for children with disabilities.
Safety is also a key focus, and Sime Darby Property has implemented measures to enforce workplace safety and health standards. It conducted Leadership Engagement and Action Programmes (LEAP), toolbox talks, alongside Safety Days to raise awareness and compliance, to ensure minimal to zero accidents or causes of concern.
The company's commitment to good governance was evident through its establishment of the Board Sustainability Committee as well as the Management Sustainability Committee. These two committees work together to oversee the execution of the sustainability strategy.
Clearly, Sime Darby Property has demonstrated its dedication to sustainability, guided by its purpose to be a value multiplier for people, businesses, economies and the planet.
