The finalists represent six continents, with three Asia-based innovators among them. The global environmental prize will hold its award ceremony in Singapore this November

Founded by Prince William in 2020, the Earthshot Prize is a worldwide environmental challenge to repair our planet through a decade of action. The platform aims to discover and implement the world’s most innovative solutions to the earth’s most pressing climate issues. The Prize is centred around five simple yet ambitious climate goals: Protect and Restore Nature; Clean Our Air; Revive Our Oceans; Build a Waste-Free World; and Fix Our Climate.

At the Innovation Summit in New York, the prince unveiled the 15 finalists of this year’s prize, who were selected from a pool of over one thousand nominees. Each finalist is in the running to win one of five £1 million prizes, and will then receive mentorship and support in the form of a fellowship programme to facilitate the growth and scale of their solutions. This year, three Asia-based innovators have been honoured as finalists.

Under the Clean Our Air category, Hong Kong’s GRST has been selected for developing a new way to build and recycle lithium-ion batteries. It hopes to provide a path to creating cleaner electric cars in the future. For the Revive Our Oceans prize, Coastal 500 of the Philippines has been nominated for their network of government leaders dedicated to restoring ocean habitats and coastal protection advocacy. Lastly, S4S Technologies from India could win the prize for Build a Waste-Free World with its solar-powered solution to combat food waste while helping farmers preserve their crops and reducing wastage.

For the first time, the awards ceremony will be accompanied by a series of events to kick off Earthshot Week beginning November 6. Global leaders, businesses and investors will gather in Singapore to engage with this year’s Earthshot Prize Winners and Finalists.
