In honour of World Wildlife Day on March 3, here’s how to celebrate and raise awareness for the cause
World Wildlife Day is an annual occasion that falls on March 3 each year to commemorate nature's contributions to our planet.
While Singapore is mainly an urban jungle filled with high-rise buildings due to its small size, we do have our fair share of nature and wildlife. Affectionately known as the heart and lungs of Singapore, the Central Catchment Nature Reserve is home to many flora species, even some fauna including barred eagle owls, oriental whip snakes, and long-tailed macaques.

1. Mandai Wildlife Reserve
Founded as the Wildlife Reserves Singapore in 2000, the Mandai Wildlife Group acquired its new name in 2021. As the parent of Singapore Zoo, River Wonders, Night Safari, and Bird Paradise, there is much to consider for the organisation when it comes to preserving wildlife.
Dedicated to protecting wildlife, the group draws out a portion of its revenue to support conservation projects in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Harping its belief in creating inspiring experiences as an avenue for protecting the natural environment, the group’s parks are teeming with educational programmes. Adopt an animal or sponsor a tree or bench at these parks to place your footprint towards wildlife conservation.
2. Acres
Acres, the acronym for Animal Concerns Research and Education Society is Singapore’s very own "police force" for wildlife. The organisation strives to create a caring and socially responsible world rid of speciesism through fostering respect and compassion for all animals. Its primary focus areas include tackling the wildlife trade, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, and promoting cruelty-free living for animals.
Sharing its research findings on animal protection to the public to promote community involvement, the society has since rescued over 4,544 wild animals in need. Monetary donations to the organisation will help fund outreach events, wildlife rescue operations, medical costs for rescued animals, and undercover animal crime investigations.

3. Nature Society (Singapore)
Since its inception as a branch under the Malayan Nature Society in 1954, Nature Society (Singapore) has been steadily promoting nature awareness and appreciation. The organisation often arranges guided nature walks for nature lovers to observe bird and butterfly species. Its commitment to preserving natural resources is expanded through ongoing conservation projects and surveys.
Entirely run by volunteers, the organisation depends on financial contributions from companies, institutions, and individuals to continue its cause. Your donation will certainly help the its efforts in conserving local and regional wildlife.
