Also known as the UN Refugee Agency, the UNHCR is present in 130 countries, including the Philippines, assisting displaced communities by wars and persecution. They are committed to protecting the people's rights and building a better future for them.

"COVID-19 has made the past year unlike any other in history," says the UNHCR's website. "Although the pandemic has affected us all, the sense of isolation, and threats to health and livelihood, felt by forcibly displaced people are especially severe."

We can support the UNHCR Philippines' effort in assisting 230,000 forcibly displaced individuals in Mindanao by donating PHP750 to PHP2,000. This will help the organisation in providing access to clean water to select communities in the southernmost part of the country that is still struggling after the recent Marawi siege and more.

This global humanitarian organisation is devoted to improving the lives of underprivileged children, their families and communities. Being the largest non-profit organisation in the Philippines, World Vision helps over 1.5 million children every year.

For the past year that we have been dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, many underprivileged children had experienced difficulty in going back to their educational programs due to the technological requirement of many schools to make remote learning possible.

"World Vision firmly believes and advocates for the right of every child to quality education," its website says. "Even in the midst of crisis, the accessibility to education should remain a priority for the sake of the children's well-being and future."

Support World Vision's Back To School campaign by donating PHP600 to PHP5,000. This is already a big help for the children in reaching their full potential as World Vision will be providing modules (reading and writing books) and school kits (set of basic school supplies) in exchange for your aid.

UNICEF has been known for its relentless spirit in promoting and protecting the rights of every child, particularly the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. It has programs that address the healthcare, educational, safety, and financial needs of underprivileged children.

Since the current pandemic began, UNICEF has been calling for donors who could assist them in providing the children access to education, protection, health and nutrition, clean water, sanitation and hygiene, and lifesaving support after emergencies. Donors may choose to support monthly or one-time. This, in turn, will provide kids with home-based learning activities, vaccines against preventable diseases, or medicines and treatment to save them from acute malnutrition.

The United Nations World Food Programme established Share The Meal in 2015 to help fight global hunger. It is an application accessible via smartphone or browser that will help you donate at least PHP40 to share a meal with a family in need. You may donate up to PHP14,600 to help feed underprivileged individuals for a year.

Besides fighting global hunger, you may also augment your donation to target specific communities in need like the drought-affected families in Madagascar, refugees in Jordan, or people from Syria and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Millions of Filipino families do not have a safe place to live. Many live under the bridges in the big metropolitan cities or in disaster-prone and depressed areas across the Philippines. Hence, Habitat for Humanity established its presence here to address this problem. By providing shelter solutions for underprivileged families and assisting them in creating their new lives sustainably, Habitat for Humanity Philippines has been true to its mission and vision.

"We build because we believe that everyone, everywhere should have a healthy, affordable place to call home," says Habitat for Humanity's website. "Millions of Filipinos living in cramped housing are at a higher risk of COVID-19 infection. The global pandemic has magnified the housing problem as everyone is forced to stay at home."

Together, we can be of aid to millions of our countrymen who need decent, liveable shelters. You may give your monetary donation, be a partner in building homes, or help the organisation to raise funds. You may course it easily via Lazada, Shopee, Paymaya, or GiveAsia with just a few taps on your phone or computer.
