Ever since he was inducted as a Messenger of Peace in 2014, Academy Award-winning actor Leonardo DiCaprio has also been diligently spreading the word on the dangers and destruction of climate change. For two years, he went around the world to see firsthand the damage inflicted on the planet. His travels culminated in one of the most-viewed documentaries of all time, Before the Flood. 

While his status as Hollywood actor contributed to the viewing numbers, naysayers have used that very influence against him. Fox News brutally disparages his background as a Hollywood actor while other media continually question the credibility of his documentary. 

At this year’s United Nations International Day of Peace event held in New York, DiCaprio delivered a stirring speech that called for action to help stem the destruction of the planet. One of the points he made was that every individual must play his or her part in holding leaders accountable for the promises made in the Paris Agreement, and that they must be persuaded to see it through. He urged the people to vote for leaders who will make changes before it is too late. hasised the world’s need to come together in order to bring lasting change. Tandio agreed on this point and noted that there was still a lot of blame going around. Tandio said that a strong leader is needed in order to reduce the finger-pointing, as well as to facilitate the collaboration between the public and private sectors.
