Scholars from Caritas Manila’s Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) can continue their studies through a series of televised fundraising events
Caritas Manila's Youth Servant Leadership and Education Program (YSLEP) believes that education can alleviate poverty especially when given to members of the urban poor. For more than 60 years, the program has been providing college education to underprivileged youth while equipping them with leadership skills and Christian values formation.
Since 2017, the program was able to fund over 20,000 students. Some of these scholars have become successful in their respective fields, while others have started their own small businesses. This year, the YSLEP seeks to support 5,000 youth through telethon or a series of televised fundraising events.
All About the Telethon
The largest church-based nonprofit organisation in the Philippines will launch the telethon on September 13, Monday, from 7am to 6pm over Radyo Veritas 846 AM radio station with a live stream on veritas846.ph.

The proceeds from the digital telethon will provide support for the students in the school year 2022. The scholarship is open to all students nationwide, but priority is given to college students and those taking up vocational-technical courses from the country’s poorest cities and provinces.
Upon graduating, members of YSLEP are automatically part of the Caritas Manila Scholars Association (CAMASA), a community of Caritas Manila graduate scholars. Through this program, Caritas Manila can continue to monitor its scholars' progress. Each graduate is also encouraged to pay it forward by becoming YSLEP donors.
“Education is the best and most effective way to fight poverty,” said Caritas Manila Executive Director Fr. Anton CT Pascual. We believe that the future servant leaders of the country will come from the poor."
