The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation marks its 65th founding anniversary. Here’s what went on during the ‘Celebrating Greatness of Spirit’ event in Manila
The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation, the premier prize and highest honour in Asia, is conferred to people and organisations that address issues of human development in Asia and make great contributions that transform their societies for the better. The award has been given in six categories: government service, public service, community leadership, journalism, literature, and creative communication arts.
This year, the foundation celebrates its 65th anniversary and celebrates its awardees through the theme Celebrating Greatness of Spirit in Manila.
The event gathered 20 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees and members of the diplomatic corps from various embassies, including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

This gathering highlighted the foundation’s mission and impact, particularly through its 65th anniversary fundraising campaign, which includes a series of exchanges titled Greatness of Spirit Dialogues and Book Tour (Celebrating Greatness of Spirit for people in Manila) which seeks to engage potential partners and donors in supporting the foundation’s renovation of its headquarters for it to become a dynamic hub for dialogue and collaboration of the Magsaysay laureates.
Filipina career diplomat Delia Albert, who served as the first female and 23rd Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs, expressed her enthusiasm during the celebration.
“It is an honour to the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation to celebrate with the Department of Foreign Affairs our shared commitment to fostering transformative leadership across Asia. This event is a testament to the enduring legacy of the Ramon Magsaysay Award as a source of pride and hope,” she said.

Ramon Magsaysay Awards Foundation president Susanna B Afan, for her part, underscored the organisation’s role in fostering collaboration among Magsaysay laureates. “This, ladies and gentlemen, is what we do. We spark fires,” she said.
“We inspire, interconnect, and ignite more action through inspiring lives and transformative works of all 348 Ramon Magsaysay Awardees—this is the legacy we are protecting and preserving,” she concluded.
