In the Philippines, there is a place for women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) industries, this is proven by a recent data which ranked the country second among nations with most female inventors
Who says women do not have voices in male-dominated industries such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics? Around the globe, the number of females who want their presence to be felt in these pursuits grows. In fact, a recent analysis provided by German database company Statista from the data gathered from the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), shows that the share of female inventors for international patents rose to 17 per cent in 2021. This is higher than the number of female applicants in the previous years—16 per cent in 2020, 15 per cent in 2019, 14 per cent in 2018 and 2017, 13 per cent in 2016 and 2015, and only 10 per cent in 2000.
Patent, as explained by WIPO, is an "exclusive right granted for an invention. To get a patent, technical information about the invention must be disclosed to the public in a patent application."
In the same data, it can be seen that the Philippines took one of the highest spots among countries that honour women's creative inputs and inventions.
