The founder of DNC Education also shares the importance of educating children at a young age and why he partnered with MindChamps to do this
David Lee has always known the importance of early childhood education. After all, these formative years are the blueprint of a child’s future. It’s not just about preparing children for school. Rather, it’s about instilling a love for learning and a curiosity that fuels their intellectual journey for years.
A National Library of Medicine study titled Early Childhood Development: An Imperative for Action and Measurement at Scale explains that early childhood shapes “biological and psychological structures and functions in ways that affect health, well-being and productivity throughout the life course”.
Lee’s interest in the education industry began with his passion for working with young children—a passion that grew even bigger once he became a father. He knew he wanted to create a platform to help children develop skills and abilities that will “serve [them] for the rest of [their] lives”. On top of that, he also wanted to create a programme that would engage kids in a fun way.

While on a journey to finding this program, he was introduced to the MindChamps curriculum, which focuses on learning experiences and social-emotional learning. Lee deeply resonated with MindChamps’s vision of “making education better for the world on a personal level”.
At MindChamps, one key aspect of the curriculum is the 3-Mind Approach. This approach focuses on developing the Champion, Learning and Creative mind. These ‘minds’ focus on developing various skills including resilience, problem-solving, imagination and more. Lee adds that this curriculum helps provide kids with a “well-rounded education” and the skills and knowledge they need to “thrive in the 21st century”. He adds: “By focusing on holistic development, the curriculum aims to produce confident, resilient and creative individuals who are ready to succeed in whatever path they choose.”

In 2008, Lee created DNC Education, a venture that blends his entrepreneurial spirit with his nurturing insights as a parent. Aiming to revolutionise the educational experience, he partnered with MindChamps in hopes to elevate early childhood education in Singapore.
DNC Education’s journey since its inception has been nothing short of remarkable. Today, it stands tall with six MindChamps centres and two Mindspace centres (student care and weekend enrichment centre), each a testament to Lee’s unwavering commitment to quality education.

Lee’s philosophy extends to the heart of his organisation. He recognises that people are essential to the success of his vision, from his dedicated employees to the parents and the children. “I feel that the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in MindChamps and Mindspace has helped us to remain at the forefront of the industry,” he shares.
In the classroom, Lee places emphasis on equipping his students with tools to learn and grow—rather than focusing on “content and rote memorisation”. Gone are the days of dimly lit rooms and stale carpets as DNC Education embraces sensory experiences to captivate young minds. Here, classrooms are filled with colourful toys and materials that help stimulate interest and attention in students.
While Lee’s journey has been rewarding, to say the least, he also had to face multiple challenges. He shares that it can be difficult to stay ahead of the curve, especially when the education sector is constantly changing. “However, I feel that the hard work and dedication of everyone involved with MindChamps and Mindspace has helped us remain at the forefront of the industry,” he shares, adding that this is especially so as a team of experts in various fields has backed this curriculum.

Lee hopes DNC Education will continue as an example in the education industry. Looking ahead, Lee hopes to see more schools placing emphasis on “developing 21st-century skills” including critical thinking and creativity.
“As educators, we need to focus on developing these skills in our students so that they are well-prepared for the challenges and opportunities of the future,” he explains.

In addition to developing these skills, Lee also believes that AI and technology will help to create a “more innovative industry in the years to come”. As the world becomes more digitally connected, integrating AI and technology will help make education more accessible and affordable while creating more engaging and interactive learning environments. This will help cater to each student’s unique learning style and pace.
