Jaime Zobel de Ayala celebrates his 90th birthday with family, friends, and acquaintances who share his vision for the Filipino people

At 90, Jaime Zobel de Ayala still advocates for Ayala Corporation to establish ventures that support the success of the Filipino people. Zobel, the company’s chairman emeritus, has been serving the company since 1984. While he wears many hats in his career, the industry leader continues to work on his passions—one of which is photography, for which he won several awards in the country and also abroad.

In his free time, Zobel also supports the Filipino art and culture scene. For his birthday, artists gathered to pay homage to the art patron via a musical titled Authentically Ayala, which was conceived by the late playwright Floy Quintos before he passed away.

The show, which was held at the Samsung Performing Arts Theatre in Circuit, Makati, on July 18 and 19, was produced by the theatre’s managing director, Christopher Mohnani, with guidance from the celebrator’s children, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, a member of the board of Ayala Corporation, and Sofia Zobel Elizalde.

The show featured performances by some of the country’s leading music artists, including Gary Valenciano, Martin Nievera, Regine Velasquez, Kuh Ledesma, Basil Valdez, Celeste Legaspi, Mitch Valdes, Menchu Lauchengco, Bituin Escalante, Buboy Garovillo and Jim Paredes of Apo Hiking Society, and Bayang Barrios.

The Manila Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of National Artist for Music Maestro Ryan Cayabyab, also performed the live music during the tribute.

“During my time, Ayala was already endowed with the most gifted individuals in the country– leaders, professionals, creative and passionate minds who became my personal and professional inspiration,” Zobel says.

Today, Ayala Corporation has a meaningful presence in real estate, banking, digital solutions and renewable energy sectors. The conglomerate promises to continue touching the lives of Filipino people in whichever aspect: healthcare, logistics, mobility, industrial technologies, education and other ventures.
