Dennis Lo is one of Hong Kong’s most renowned scientific figures. He is currently the associate research dean of the Faculty of Medicine and the director of the Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Tatler Asia’s Most Influential honouree, molecular biologist Dennis Lo, has been nominated as the sole candidate to become the next president and vice-chancellor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Known for his groundbreaking work in non-invasive prenatal testing, Lo has been a pivotal figure in the scientific community.

The CUHK council, scheduled to meet this Friday, is expected to confirm his appointment, requiring the support of three-fourths of its members. If approved, Lo will succeed the current president, Rocky Tuan, who steps down in January.

Lo, a celebrated member of Tatler’s Asia’s Most Influential community, has been with CUHK since 1997. His pioneering discovery that fetal DNA is present in maternal blood has revolutionised prenatal testing, earning him prestigious accolades such as the Lasker-DeBakey Clinical Medical Research Award in 2022 and the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences in 2021.
