Don't worry if you are out of ideas on how to spend May 9 with Mum this year. We have a list of activities that will definitely entertain the matriarch in your life

Our mothers are very special people so it is only fitting that we make the queens in our lives feel extra appreciated on Mother's Day. But don't stop at just gifting her the usual chocolates and flowers. Sure, staycations are a good idea during this pandemic where we can't travel. However, we say it is time to level up and bring Mum along for a workshop or masterclass to her liking. Depending on her interests, there is bound to be a number of offerings available islandwide.

Below, we've rounded up some of the most interesting workshops that we think the matriarch at home will definitely approve of. On top of these classes, don't forget to order her an indulgent cake on May 9 to complete her Mother's Day experience on a sweet note.

1. Coffee appreciation

PPP Coffee has partnered with Conrad Centennial Singapore to launch a unique staycation package that includes a multi-sensory coffee experience for guests. Bring mum along for a session of coffee appreciation, especially if she’s a caffeine addict. You will discover the flavour spectrum of coffee in a coffee appreciation workshop, and enjoy a special pourover curated by PPP Coffee at breakfast as part of your staycation package. The workshop is only valid for stays on Fridays and Saturdays from now till June 30, 2021. Limited to the first 8 bookings per day.

5. Learn more about tea

Immerse yourself in the history of tea and find out its benefits at Tea Chapter, Singapore’s oldest and largest tea house located on the fringe of Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar. The best part about a tea appreciation workshop is being able to taste a wide variety of tea so expect that here as well. You’ll also be treated to tea cookies—which is one of the many highlights of this session. Book a private workshop with mummy dearest and you’ll have a tea master guide you through a session where you’ll find out about the origins of tea and learn which tea suits you the best, whether it’s your taste preferences or even health goals.

6. Make some jelly art

Have you heard of jelly art? Think of an elevated version of our local treat, agar agar, if you will. These jelly cakes are almost too pretty to eat but if you'd like to join in the fun with Mum and create your own customised jellies, workshops are available. The hands-on workshop will allow you to experience creating an artisanal jelly cake that could take the form of well-loved characters such as Hello Kitty and Mickey Mouse or filled with beautiful blooms. Slots are limited for the months of May and June so book soon if you would like to be a part of this.
