Created by The Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University, EdX currently has a catalogue of more than 2,650 online courses created for the masses. Through this platform, you can learn a variety of subjects from modern American poetry to Chinese history and culture.

For those who just wants to expand existing skills vertically, look no further than LinkedIn Learning. Available courses covers business and technology. There also courses on professional skill upgrades like basic classes on impromptu speaking, influencer marketing and mobile app development.

Most courses include quizzes, exercise files, templates and other supporting documents to help you apply your knowledge into practical training. LinkedIn Learning also offer specific learning paths to guide you through helpful courses if you want to explore a new field or industry.

Open-learning platform Skillshare is offering courses to nurture your creativity as well as enrich your business goals. Examples of course categories include leadership, marketing, productivity, graphic design, culinary arts, languages, and wellness.

Notable past instructors are often familiar names in the self-development circles such as Seth Godin, Guy Kawasaki and Gary Vaynerchuk.

While its classes aren’t academically accredited, Skillshare is focused on practical application and often has a project in its course that offers practical experience and the opportunity to receive feedback.

Note: There are free classes but premium classes are only available with monthly or annual subscription.

Star instructors take the spotlight at MasterClass, with notable names like legendary Vogue editor Anna Wintour, music producer Timbaland, celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, photographer Annie Leibowitz and scientist Neil Degrasse Tyson conducting online classes with masterful production and videography.

Each class has video lessons, exercises, workbooks, and interview sessions with the instructor. A typical class has about 10–25 video lessons that are two to five hours long. While these instructors are not qualified academics, they offer useful insights into succeeding in their respective fields, serving as a virtual mentor.

Like LinkedIn Learning and Skillshare, Udemy also offers educational and skill learning in its platform. However, it has a huge following worldwide for its offering of recreational learning such as music and language.

Through Udemy, you can sign up to master various skills such as foreign language or piano playing.
