This November, Tatler presents United Hong Kong, a fundraising benefit and movement that will bring together the city’s most influential and powerful at 13 iconic venues across the city in aid of social housing enterprise Light Be
Rallying industries and communities through an unprecedented event concept, Tatler will be hosting a city-wide fundraiser at over ten iconic hotels for the benefit of social housing enterprise Light Be. The unprecedented concept is intended to revitalise Hong Kong’s standing on the world stage with a movement designed to lift spirits and support industries, and showcase Hong Kong’s vibrant energy and unique heritage.
United Hong Kong will be a pioneer on numerous fronts: from bringing together industries to work together for a common cause and distributing rapid Covid-19 tests for all staff and guests prior to the event, setting the tone for the new normal in the events space.
“Our belief in the “4 C’s” is what inspired this event––connection, community, charity, and a can-do spirit––all of which we believe the city needs more than ever,” says Michel Lamunière, Chairman & CEO of the Tatler Asia Group. “Hong Kong needs to come together in these challenging times, and given our history at Tatler of bringing together industries and communities, we wanted to use our platform to showcase the best of our city, and in turn, encourage others to support.”
In a remarkable collaboration, United Hong Kong brings together over ten iconic Hong Kong hotels to each host a fundraising dinner for a maximum of 50 persons each, with social distancing measures strictly followed, on the evening of Saturday, November 21, 2020.
To uplift and support the performing arts industry, United Hong Kong will also showcase leading performing arts companies and numerous independent artists and performers to stage immersive performances at each of the locations.
“We have always been committed to promotion and development of Asian culture and identity on the global stage and supporting local communities and individuals, two things which are fully embodied in the vision for United Hong Kong,” adds Lamunière.
Tatler’s inaugural fundraiser is on behalf of social enterprise Light Be, the first social housing enterprise in Hong Kong, with the aims to raise HK$10million.
“We are grateful to Tatler and Michel in particular for supporting our vision,” says Ricky Yu, Founder of Light Be. “Through this benefit and the generous support of the Hong Kong community, we will be able to accelerate our impact in terms of developing new housing options intended to help temporarily impoverished households and break their poverty cycle, particularly in this post-Covid environment.”
“We are also asking the Hong Kong public to show their support for this initiative, which will, in turn, support the hospitality, performing arts, and provide much-needed social housing to those who need it the most,” says Lamunière.
United Hong Kong is also partnering with Prenetics, a leading global COVID-19 technology provider, to distribute around 1,200 testing kits prior to the event for all participating staff and guests.
Lamunière adds, “We have an opportunity to demonstrate that Hong Kong is again at the forefront of innovation, by showing the world what the new normal in the events space is.”
