Gen.T and PayPal Singapore came together to co-host a private dinner and panel discussion on expanding into East Asia

On March 24, we co-hosted a networking dinner with PayPal. Held at Idlewild at InterContinental Singapore, the evening event was attended by founders and leaders from the Gen.T community, each keen to build new connections and grow their business knowledge.

The session was anchored by a fireside chat with PayPal’s Patrick Foo, who is the vice-president of Africa, India, Hong Kong, South Korea, Southeast Asia, Taiwan and the Middle East. The discussion centred around business expansion into East Asia, with topics including understanding business cultures, localising sales and marketing strategies to appeal to consumers, and navigating local laws and regulations.

“Be different from everyone else, localise your products and services and build your brand,” says Foo, who also shared insights on the specific market and business trends for Hong Kong and mainland China.

Attendees at the dinner included Kelvin Lee, co-founder and CEO of Fundnel; Christel Quek, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Bolt Global; Maxim Tint, founder and CEO of GTriip; and Ng Yi Ming, co-founder and CEO of Tribe and StackUp.

As a special treat, guests enjoyed a curated canapes platter with drams of Johnnie Walker Blue Label and Läderach chocolate for dessert.
