Two months ago, the Malaysia Tatler team had the absolute honour and privilege of taking part in a Teach For Malaysia (TFM) initiative. Its founder and managing director, Dzameer Dzulkifli, had arranged a trip to one of the schools partnering with the organisation, so that the team could shadow a teacher for a day. In planning this, we had managed to get two very willing volunteers – jeweller William Sin and textile designer Denise Chiew – to tag along for the 'educational trip'.

What had begun as just an introduction to the education system, the struggles the students faced just to remain motivated enough to study, as well as the challenges low-income families face to send their children to school, ended in an emotional and heartfelt dialogue and discussion, which we covered in detail in our May 2018 cover story.
