The merge will form The Flexi Group, which will have a reach of nine countries across the Asia-Pacific region

Common Ground, co-founded by Gen.T honouree Erman Akinci and Juhn Teo, has grown to be one of the major co-working space players in Malaysia since its inception in 2017. On August 16, the company announced a merger with two other co-working space brands: Hong Kong’s the Hive and Australia’s The Cluster.

The three brands will combine to form The Flexi Group and will boast a reach of nine countries across the Asia-Pacific region, with 45 locations in 12 cities. The group says it will still operate its three co-working brands under separate names across the region.

The merger is said to be supported by investment from Malaysian venture capital Emissary Capital, also co-founded by Erman and Teo, and Singapore-based Catcha Group. According to The Flexi Group’s chief executive officer Chris Edwards, the group will leverage its multi-brand structure to target different market segments. He expects the business to expand by up to 100 locations over the next three years.
