The FemTech Association Asia’s FemTech Connect event will showcase and celebrate the femtech landscape in Asia and consider what the future of femtech might look like
Thought leaders, entrepreneurs, executives from multinational corporations, investors and femtech enthusiasts are set to descend on Singapore in June for the inaugural FemTech Connect Asia, a roundtable event organised by the FemTech Association Asia.
The two-day discussion-based summit is set to celebrate and empower women in femtech—the point at which women's health and technology converge—as leaders and up-and-comers in the field meet and engage over talks, workshops, panels, learning sessions, showcases and more.
From addressing the challenges and opportunities of AI, to forecasting future trends, to the innovative event set-up, these are the things that we’re most looking forward to at FemTech Connect Asia.
1. The collaborative format
FemTech Connect will turn the traditional idea of what a summit is on its head. Instead of your typical panel, network, panel, network format, the event will be a “roundtable”, infusing workshops throughout with an emphasis on collaboration and collective problem solving to tackle the challenges facing femtech founders and identify the steps that need to be taken to drive the industry in Asia forward.
2. The diversity and dynamism of participants
FemTech Connect attendees will span disciplines, from those in femtech and healthcare to those who work tangentially to these fields, in order to inspire diverse views and derive more innovative solutions. The event will see consultants and corporates come together alongside investors and founders as well as individuals with an interest in the intersection of women’s health and technology.
3. Addressing the data gap
Among the pressing topics under discussion at FemTech Connect will be data. The research gap in understanding women’s health needs is vast, but on top of that limited research in Asia in particular affects the ability of femtech startups to scale solutions. The Data Dialogues fireside chat and workshop will address the data that should be prioritised in the region, and how collecting enriched data can lead to improved women’s health overall.
4. A showcase of femtech products and services
The FemTech Showcase puts seven femtech companies in the spotlight, with each one taking attendees through their solutions in a dynamic five-minute pitch. Founders of the hottest femtech companies from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Singapore, among others, demonstrate what they have done, what they are doing, and what they need to grow.
5. Taking care of your own health
It’s often the case that the health women take care of least is their own health, and this is no different for femtech founders, the vast majority of whom are women. A guided meditation kicks off day two of FemTech Connect to encourage participants to put themselves first. Wellness champion Farina Ghanie will take attendees through various breathing exercises to improve mental and physical health whilst cultivating and supporting deep relaxation.
6. The role of AI
A workshop teaching the fundamentals of AI and sharing how to build a basic AI app in seven minutes will precede a panel discussion that will address the biases in AI algorithms to ensure equitable access to tech-driven healthcare solutions, the challenges AI presents to the femtech industry, and the breakthroughs as well as the potential pitfalls in harnessing AI to advance women’s health.
7. The future of femtech
The future of femtech will be addressed across several sessions, including one on its expanding horizons. Historically, the femtech industry has been associated with reproductive health, but as research into the female body expands and understanding of diseases that disproportionately impact women grows, femtech is addressing new areas including cancer, ageing and chronic disease. Another session will see women’s health trend forecaster Ultra Violet highlight the latest developments in the field, from inventions to innovations to product development.
