Amrapali ‘Ami’ Gan on spearheading the subscription social platform, the future of the creator economy, and her latest venture Hoxton Projects
In the cutthroat realm of the digital sphere, companies and platforms often face a constant struggle to remain appealing and relevant to consumers. But under the leadership of Amrapali “Ami” Gan, the online subscription-based platform OnlyFans transformed from a niche site to a crucial component of the cultural zeitgeist.
Gan first joined the UK-based company in 2020, signing on as chief marketing and communications officer, before taking the helm as chief executive officer the following year. “I came into the business with a clear vision of how to further propel the platform as a disruptor in the creator economy and entertainment [industry],” Gan shares. “Additionally, having the opportunity to connect with so many creators from around the world and hear their stories has been incredible, so inspiring.”

Above Gan stepped down as CEO of OnlyFans to launch strategic advisory Hoxtons Projects
After leading the subscription platform for two years, Gan sought to return to her marketing roots, stepping down to focus on her new venture—Hoxton Projects, together with partner Kailey Magder. The strategic advisory designs business blueprints for companies ranging from start-ups to enterprises, across various sectors including Fintech and entertainment.
“Launching Hoxton has been an incredible experience, allowing me to be both creative and analytical for the clients we work with,” Gan says, emphasising the dynamic and diverse nature of the businesses Hoxton supports. She adds that Hoxton Projects is reimagining the agency approach, “working directly with clients to create bespoke strategies that drive growth, solve real business problems, and ultimately help companies scale and generate revenue.”
As with any new business, launching Hoxton Projects has not been without its challenges. Its comprehensive approach means constantly adapting to clients’ needs, and requires flexibility and a willingness to evolve. “Expanding our services to include design and commerce to meet the needs of our clients, while keeping our core offerings of business and marketing strategy strong, has been key,” Gan reveals.

However, Gan’s commitment to innovation and impactful business practices continues to drive the company forward. “Digital platforms are becoming all-encompassing, integrating community, commerce, and deeper engagement elements. We aim to be at the forefront of this shift, helping businesses navigate these changes and leverage new opportunities to build community.” She adds that she is particularly excited about the potential of the agency’s Concept Studio, which experiments with business ideas and product development, launching later this year.
Looking ahead, Gan predicts that the creator economy is shifting towards the community economy, where platforms prioritise fostering genuine connections. “People are increasingly seeking communities where they can connect with like-minded individuals. This means finding their tribe for digital connections and deeper interactions. Platforms that cater to these communities will be at the forefront of this evolution,” she explains. This foresight underpins Hoxton Projects’s strategy, ensuring it remains at the cutting edge of digital innovation.
