Find out more about the new Singaporean chief executive of Binance Singapore, a cryptocurrency trading platform

This week, Binance Singapore announced that they appointed Mr Richard Teng as their new chief executive officer (CEO).

Binance Singapore is a cryptocurrency trading platform that operates under Binance Holdings’ Singapore unit which is Binance Asia Services.

They offer Singapore citizens and residents trading pairs for Bitcoin, Ethereum and Binance Coin. They also allow for deposits and withdrawals through Xfers Direct, a payment platform. 

Teng brings with him a wealth of experience from working at the Monetary Authority of Singapore, Singapore Exchange (SGX), Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) and more.

1. He received tertiary education in both Singapore and US

Teng is truly born and bred in Singapore. In fact, in 1994, he graduated from Singapore’s Nanyang Technological University (NTU) with a degree in accountancy. 

He later went on to broader his horizons with a Masters in Applied Finance from the University of Western Australia and to attend the executive leadership programme at the University of Pennsylvania - The Wharton School. 

2. He began his career at Monetary Authority of Singapore and SGX

After he graduated from NTU, Teng got his first job at the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) where he stayed for 13 years. He worked his way up to become the director of corporate finance at MAS. 

He then moved on to the Singapore Exchange (SGX) in 2007 where he held multiple senior roles including chief regulatory officer.

He led the regulation group and was responsible for policy, framework and rule formulation in the areas of listing, trading and clearing.  

3. He was the CEO of Abu Dhabi Global Market for six years

After leaving SGX, Teng joined Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) as its CEO.

Teng played a crucial role here and allowed ADGM to gain international recognition by regulators and industry officials around the world. 

4. He has sat on many boards

In addition to his multiple prestigious roles, Teng has also sat on the boards of several established corporations.

He was the board director at Lulu Financial Group, an advisory board member at Blockchain Association Singapore and an international council member at Global Fintech Institute.
