The Ned Doha

Doha, Qatar

A brutalist landmark reimagined as a hub for wellness, art and design

The Ned Doha is a stunning architectural conversion, housed in the former Ministry of Interior building on the Corniche waterfront. Originally designed in the 1970s by Lebanese architect William Sednaoui, the listed structure is a celebrated example of elegant Middle Eastern Brutalist architecture, noted for its rhythmic façade and sculptural concrete pilasters.

Reimagined by David Chipperfield Architects and Soho House Design, the hotel respectfully preserves this heritage while adding a sleek podium and rooftop.

The interiors perfectly capture the glamour of the 1970s with 90 rooms and suites featuring terrazzo floors, rich velvet, marble and nostalgic touches like rotary telephones. At its core, a soaring central Atrium anchors seven restaurants—including Cecconi’s for Italian cuisine and Pan-Asian restaurant Kaia.

The ground-floor Atrium is the hotel's social heart. Plan to have a cocktail at the Nickel Lounge around sunset to enjoy the nightly live jazz music that sets the sophisticated, retro atmosphere.

The Ned Doha features an extensive collection of over 350 contemporary artworks by nearly 100 artists from Qatar, West Asia, and North Africa (WANA), 70% being female artists. The collection was specially curated to reflect the region's cultural identity, like We Are the Grandkids by Noof Al Naama Qatari, which reinterprets a painting by her late grandfather, pioneering Qatari artist Jassim Zaini.
