The Lalu Sun Moon Lake

In the foothills of Taiwan’s Central Mountain Range, perched beside Sun Moon Lake, The Lalu is one of the region’s best kept secrets. It’s also positioned across from the hilltop Xuanguang Temple, giving it incredible views. The Zen-inspired aesthetic is the work of late Australian architect Kerry Hill, who employed a textural palette of slate grey stone, teak and glass to mirror the surrounding natural landscape. With the exception of a handful of stand-alone villas, all of the guest rooms face the lake, with balconies that span the full length of the rooms, featuring snug daybeds for lazy lakeside afternoons and ethereal sunsets. Visit the 60-metre infinity pool, which appears to drop into the lake, as well as the spa, which features hot and cold whirlpools, herbal steam rooms and Swedish saunas.
