Park Hyatt Kyoto

Kyoto, Japan

Low-rise Japanese craftsmanship and dining that overlooks Higashiyama rooftops

Set in Kyoto’s historic Higashiyama district adjacent to Kodai-ji Temple, Park Hyatt Kyoto merges contemporary architecture with traditional Japanese craftsmanship. Designed by Tony alongside architectural firm Takenaka Corporation, the low-rise hillside property features low-lit corridors lined with tamo wood, local stone and handmade shoji screens. Floor-to-ceiling windows across its 70 rooms frame views over the Hōkan-ji Temple or the hotel's peaceful, moss-covered inner courtyards.

The hotel is physically integrated with Kyoyamato, a legendary ryotei (traditional high-end Japanese restaurant) that dates back to 1877. Set within a 300-year-old wooden garden house originally established during the Edo period, Kyoyamato famously hosted secret meetings among feudal warlords and samurai leaders during the Meiji Restoration. For something more modern, at Yasaka, enjoy teppanyaki with front-row views of Kyoto's preserved tile-roofed cityscape.
