Nirjhara
Bali, Indonesia

One of Bali’s best-kept secrets
The word nirjhara is Sanskrit for waterfall, and this boutique hotel sits directly opposite one, surrounded by cascading rice paddies and tropical jungle. Nirjhara’s 25 villas are dressed in timber, rattan and stone sourced from across the Indonesian archipelago. The Canopy Suites stand several metres off the ground for spectacular views towards Mount Batukaru. These lavish tree houses also have a private roof deck with an outdoor tub shaded by swaying palm fronds. The resort encourages an authentic, slow approach to enjoying the Island of the Gods—every guest gets a bike to explore the neighbourhood, private surf lessons can be arranged at nearby volcanic beaches, and yoga or meditation classes to the soundtrack of gushing waterfalls and birdsong. Its restaurant, Ambu, sources ingredients from nearby farms.
