Amankila

Bali, Indonesia

Like something out of a dream, with cascading pools and frangipani-lined walkways

Meaning "peaceful hill" in Sanskrit, Amankila claims a breathtaking cliffside location on Bali's serene East coast, overlooking the Lombok Strait and backed by Mount Agung. The resort's design is an architectural homage to the nearby Ujung Water Palace. Its 34 free-standing suites are elevated on stilts, connected by picturesque frangipani-lined walkways and boasting traditional alang-alang thatched roofs. Interiors feature Balinese materials like coconut shell and pearl inlay, with expansive outdoor terraces and, in select suites, private infinity pools.

The resort's undisputed centerpiece is its legendary three-tiered infinity pool, which cascades down the hillside, architecturally resembling Bali's iconic rice paddies. A short buggy ride delivers guests to the private black-sand Beach Club, which features a 41-metre lap pool, balés (thatched pavilions), and non-motorised watersports.

Tatler Tip: Since Amankila is close to several pristine snorkeling and diving sites, book a cruise on an Aman outrigger, such as the Aman XII, for a spectacular sunrise or a dedicated dive trip to spot manta rays.
