Alila Villas Uluwatu

Bali, Indonesia

Architectural clifftop nests add drama to Uluwatu’s coastline

On the southernmost tip of Bali, Alila Villas Uluwatu sits on a prime oceanfront location, with unobstructed views of majestic cliffs, dramatic coastline and sparkling Indian Ocean. The property covers 14 hectares that have been designed and sculpted to provide all the material comforts of a five-star hotel: a picturesque infinity pool that stretches out into the horizon—easily the most popular Instagram spot on the premises—an award-winning spa, two restaurants and a cliff-top bar. Particularly impressive is the sustainability-focused approach to design. The brainchild of Singaporean architectural firm Woha, the property incorporates local building material such as bamboo on the ceilings to insulate rooms from heat, limestone cut from the original site and the innovative use of locally sourced lava rock on the roofs to absorb heat.
