Zhang Yexing graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and now lives and works in Beijing. His works embody the dual state of how an artist growing up in northern China has long been trying to work within "the realism of the former Soviet Union", and how he quickly embraced foreign cultures in the age of the global economy. In 2016, Yexing held a solo exhibition Hunting in Dreamland (Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing, China). From the standpoint of a labourer, he tries to create a dreamlike reality. This dreamland also reflects the helplessness and vexation, changes and tempering imposed on individual lives by society. Dreaming is the way the artist reacts: as he constantly "chews the cud" of life, his searching, seeking, confirming and dialoguing is reflected in his creative activities. In 2017, Yexing participated in the group exhibition Platform China Contemporary Art Institute at Art Basel HK (Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, Hong Kong).
