Yung Wei Yang impressed the world at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, winning a silver medal and becoming Taiwan’s first Olympic medallist in judo. After the Olympics, he represented Taiwan University of Sports at the 110th National Games where he won gold.
The International Judo Federation currently places Yung Wei Yang in the number one spot in the men’s under-60 kg weight division. Yang has publicly declared that his two goals are to be number one in the world and win an Olympic Gold. With one achievement under his belt, he is now set on winning gold in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
At the 2021 Judo Grand Slam Abu Dhabi held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, he won the gold medal in his event. He also won the gold medal in his event at the 2022 Judo Grand Slam Antalya held in Antalya, Turkey.
Yang, who is of Paiwan heritage, was introduced to martial art by his mother and sparred with his brothers. He credits the sport for instilling in him the values of self-discipline, politeness, and cooperation with others.
