Chairman, Aurora Group

Office equipment mogul Yung Tai Chen also harbors a passion for ancient Chinese relics

Yung Tai Chen made his wealth in the office industry, selling office furniture, electronics, and office automation equipment through in 1,500 locations in Taiwan and mainland China. The Aurora Group grew out of Chen’s small clock-selling business, which he started in 1965. He then started investing in China after he first visited the Pudong area in 1993 and saw the potential of the wasteland as the site of Aurora’s mainland headquarters. In response to remote office needs during the pandemic, Aurora has offered AI-powered technology for conducting interviews, social-distancing desks, and other contactless solutions.

Chen’s most significant cultural contribution is creating the Aurora Museum in Shanghai, designed by renowned architect Tadao Ando. The museum builds on years of research on Chinese civilization and ancient relics, and showcases Chen’s formidable collection of Chinese treasures collected over 40 years, including pottery, jade artefacts, and Buddhist statues.
