Yu Hsuan Cheng is dedicated to promoting Taiwanese chocolate internationally

Founder and head chef Yu Hsuan Cheng (鄭畬軒) has made a name for himself on the international stage with Taiwan chocolate brand Yu Chocolatier (畬室). Yu’s journey began at the age of 19 when he decided to teach himself chocolate-making, later going on to study at L'ecole Ferrandi Paris, where he gained experience and skills during internships at the Michelin three-star restaurant Ledoyen and the renowned chocolate shop Jacques Génin in Paris, France.

Cheng returned to Taiwan in 2015 and opened Yu Chocolatier in Taipei's Renai Circle. In just a year, Yu Chocolatier won at the 2016 World Chocolate Competition, a first for a Taiwanese brand. Since then, Cheng has brought his chocolates at various international chocolate exhibitions, elevating the global recognition of Taiwanese chocolate with his creations. He focuses on creating ‘Taiwanese chocolate with international vocabulary,’ combining French techniques with an Eastern cultural aesthetic to craft elegant and unique filled chocolates and desserts.

His dedication to his work has earned him numerous accolades, including a spot at the World's 50 Best Restaurants’ The 50 Next Awards, and recognition as one of Tatler Taiwan’s 2021 Tastemakers.
