Yenny Wahid is a socio-political activist known for her campaign to bring Islam back to its core message of peace. She is currently the Director of The Wahid Institute, an Islamic research centre founded by her late father, the former Indonesian president Abdurrahman Wahid.

The Wahid Institute strives for a moderate and tolerant view of Islam by cultivating harmony between Islam and other religious cultures and communities, and strengthening Indonesia's good governance and civil society. This is achieved through publications, training and discussions.

Previously, Wahid worked as an award-winning journalist for Australian publications such as The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age in Melbourne. She was appointed as a political communication adviser for President Yudhoyono in 2006 and as secretary-general for The National Awakening Party (PKB), the biggest Muslim party in Indonesia.

Wahid earned her degree from Trisakti University, Jakarta and a Master's at the Harvard Kennedy School, USA. She was named a Young Global Leader in 2009 by the World Economic Forum.
