Xu Wenkai

Artist

Xu Wenkai is commonly known as aaajiao on the Internet. Many of his works tap into new ideas, topics and phenomena relating to the Internet today, while quite a few of his projects focus on data processing, WeMedia and data filtration. With great concern for the all-consuming nature of the Internet for the young generation living in the age of social media, aaajiao’s crossover works, which span architecture, electronic music, performance, product design, medicine and more, touch on these ideas and are often selected for exhibition at home and abroad. His works have been part of shows including Globale: Global Control and Censorship (ZKM | Centre for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany, 2015) and the 2nd “CAFAM Future” Exhibition: Observer-Creator · The Reality Representation of Chinese Young Art (CAFA Art Museum, Beijing, China, 2015). In addition, aaajiao was not only granted the 3rd Art Sanya & Huayu Youth Jury Award but also shortlisted for the 1st OCAT-Pierre Huber Art Prize at the end of 2014 and nominated for the 9th AAC Young Artist Award in 2015. In 2017, aaajiao held such exhibitions as What’s in Store (Salford Museum and Art Gallery), Being Information (SSSSTART) and aaajiao: User, Love, High-frequency Trading (Leo Xu projects).
