The visionary tech leader driving Chinese AI pioneer SenseTime into its next era of profitability and growth

Co-founder, CEO and Chairman of SenseTime, Xu Li has over a decade of experience in computer vision and deep learning. Just three years after it was established, SenseTime was named the most valuable AI startup in the world after raising US$600 million in its 2018 Series C funding round. Specialising in facial recognition, computer vision and native multimodal AI model architectures, the Hong Kong-founded company’s technology has been embraced by hundreds of major clients, including Meitu, Weibo and Xiaomi.

Having steered the Chinese AI giant’s growth following the passing of co-founder Tang Xiao’ou in 2023, Xu led SenseTime through an unprecedented AI boom. Over a two-year span, he successfully raised over US$1 billion in strategic placements and pioneered the rollout of the firm’s advanced multimodal models, guiding SenseTime to its first-ever profit as a publicly listed company in August 2026.
