Film producer and distributor Winnie Tsang, the founder and managing director of film company Golden Scene, is trying to put Hong Kong cinema back on its feet. She started her career with Hong Kong film production, distribution and exhibition company Golden Harvest, now known as Orange Sky Golden Harvest, working extensively in local film and getting a taste of film festivals in Chinatowns in the US, where Golden Harvest has cinemas.

In 1998 Tsang set up Golden Scene, where she helps to get local films made, including socially conscious stories that might otherwise struggle to find funding and distribution. The company’s films include Adam Wong’s The Way We Dance (2013) and Fruit Chan’s The Midnight After (2013). It also promotes the best of international cinema in the city, a mission that was made considerably easier in 2021, when Golden Scene launched its own cinema in Hong Kong island’s Kennedy Town, the only one in the area.
