Wendy Long

Private Investor

The Collectors | Private investor, philanthropist... and sartorial superstar. Wendy Long wears many hats and she does so in absolute style

She went to the best schools growing up and read business at university, but a grace like Wendy Long’s cannot be taught—you either have it or you don’t. The same goes for her sartorial prowess. Long is one of just a few in Singapore who is an Alaïa couture client, and you only have to peek into her wardrobes—yes, plural—at the celebrated architectural masterpiece called The Olive House (which, incidentally, is what she named her place of residence) as well as her curation of couture confections to know why. “I view fashion as wearable art that transforms what we do every day into performance art. To me, fashion is a conduit for our own narrative,” says Long, who is also a dear friend of the house of Saint Laurent. For this photo shoot, she chose to be immortalised in a stunning special‐order hooded ensemble by the French maison. “It was love at first sight!” she says—and who are we to stand in the way of love? For all that she has been blessed with, Long considers it important to pay it forward. She fosters education for undergraduates of Downing College at the University of Cambridge (her husband’s alma mater) with the Martin and Wendy Siah Bursary.
