Wang Chong is the most influential post-80s drama director in China. He has directed many new wave dramas such as The Vagina Monologues, e-Station and Hamlet Machine and his works have toured mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and the United States, attracting media and academic attention. He founded the Théatre du Rêve Expérimental in 2008, members of which are all post-80s dramatists. It quickly became China’s most internationally influential troupe. In 2016 and 2017, Chong’s work Lu Xun toured many cities across China and was staged at drama festivals at home and abroad including the 2017 Shanghai Jing’an Modern Drama Valley. Chong’s unique style has aroused heated discussion and praise and continues to promote the development of new-wave drama in China.
