Vivian Yang grows world-class wine grapes in Taiwan

Born into a family with deep roots in farming, Vivian Yang was introduced early on to the beauty and complexities of growing Taiwanese wine grapes. She founded Weightstone Winery with her father, the late Wen-bin Yang, former chairman of Sinon Corporation.

Yang was born in Taiwan but educated in Canada. Upon entering the wine business, she learned everything from scratch, consulting with international experts from Napa Valley in the US and South Africa. Through her commitment to Weightstone, she continues her father’s dream of showing the world that some of the best grapes can be grown in Taiwan.

The company produces white wine and traditional sparkling wine with classic brewing methods while exploring the cultivation of more varieties in Taiwan. Its first sparkling white wine was launched in 2016, with an impressive reception from industry experts.

Weightstone’s Gris de Noirs Rosé Extra Brut won at the 2018 Decanter World Wine Awards, putting the Taiwanese wine industry on the map. In 2019, its wine was selected as a representative gift from Taiwan, presented by the President to diplomatic allies. In the 2021 New York International Wine Competition, Weightstone won a gold medal and two silver medals, gaining international recognition for the taste of Taiwan’s terroir.
