Vivian Que-Azcona

President, Mercury Drug

Amid a global health crisis, Mercury Drug President Vivian Que-Azcona embodies what it means to serve the Filipino people

Founded in 1945 by Mariano Que, Mercury Drug started as a pushcart store selling medicine in a Manila devastated by World War II. Seventy-five years later, Mariano Que’s daughter, current Mercury Drug President Vivian Que-Azcona, faces yet another war — this time, an invisible one.

Hoarding of face masks and alcohol, misinformation on drugs, and stringent lockdowns were just some of the challenges Que-Azcona has faced at the helm of Mercury Drug. With over 1,000 store branches in the Philippines, she needed to heed the call of service to the public the same way her father did.

Tirelessly working through the pandemic, Que-Azcona has catapulted Mercury Drug into even greater heights by creating services such as the Mercury Drug App and drive-thru service. Her resilience and dedication to service would later be recognized by the Asia Corporate Excellence and Sustainability (ACES) Award, where she would win as 2021’s Woman Entrepreneur of the Year.

For the Mercury Drug president, the success of Mercury Drug can always be traced back to its roots: serving the Filipino people.
