Fencer Vivian Kong made history as Hong Kong's third-ever Olympic gold medalist by winning the women’s épée individual event at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In 2019, she became one of few Hong Kong athletes to be ranked world number one in an Olympic sport, putting her high on the list of hopefuls for a podium place in Tokyo in 2020. She has competed at the Olympics before—in 2016, she became the first Hong Kong fencer to win a match at that level and has since won a World Cup title.

She stunned Hong Kong and the fencing world after her Olympic win when she announced her retirement from professional sport. She joined The Hong Kong Jockey Club as assistant external affairs manager, and will promote the sport to young people.
