Tan Sri Vincent Tan

One of the most successful and renowned Malaysian businessmen


Tan Sri Vincent Tan, the founder and executive chairman of conglomerate Berjaya Corporation Bhd, is one of the most prominent Malaysian business leaders. His diversified business interests include retail, gaming and lottery management, property development, hospitality and media.

He is also famously known for being the owner of football club Cardiff City since 2010. Tan, who started working at age 17 as a bank clerk and went on to sell insurance at AIA, started in the business world from humble beginnings in trading, general insurance and property development and grew it into diversified Malaysian conglomerate.

In 2021, Tan stepped down as executive chairman while remaining on the board and appointed the first non-family member Abdul Jalil Abdul Rasheed as group chief executive officer whom he tasked to redirect the group’s focus from a conglomerate to a diversified consumer group.

That same year, Tan also announced that he will be leaving half of his wealth to charity at the end of his life and renamed the Vincent Tan Foundation to Better Malaysia Foundation, through which he is working with relevant stakeholders to push for affordable housing programme to ensure that all Malaysians become homeowners. He has also been committing his time to the charity work through the Tzu Chi Foundation.
