Pasig’s reformist mayor reshaping governance with integrity and vision

Choosing public service over the spotlight of a showbiz family, Vico Sotto has quickly become a symbol of principled leadership and effective governance. Since his election in 2019, he has consistently challenged entrenched political norms, delivering reforms that prioritise transparency, efficiency and the welfare of residents.

His initial victory was widely hailed as a political upset, unseating a family that had dominated local politics for decades. From modernising the city hall—with facilities for seniors, children and businesses—to ensuring seamless public services through a temporary municipal hub, his approach has been both visionary and practical.

In 2025, his reputation as a reformist was further solidified. Anti-corruption initiatives strengthened the city’s finances, enabling greater investment in public programmes while reinforcing accountability. These achievements, coupled with his commitment to integrity, secured him a third and final term as mayor, reflecting the enduring trust of Pasig’s citizens.

Beyond governance, he champions youth engagement and social entrepreneurship, cultivating a culture of civic participation and innovation. By combining pragmatic reforms with a personal ethos of service, he has transformed Pasig into a model of responsive leadership.

Today, he stands out as a rare figure in Philippine politics: youthful yet seasoned, reform-minded yet approachable, and wholly devoted to the city he serves—a mayor whose influence and example extend far beyond municipal boundaries.

Vico Sotto taught at a local university before he filed for his candidacy as mayor. If he didn’t win the seat, he says he would have pursued a career in teaching. Education places high in his mayoral agenda, too. Over the pandemic, the city of Pasig distributed early-learning kits to home-locked parents and students who were forced into e-learning.
