Founder, Waroeng Imaji
Businesswoman, sociopreneur and philanthropist Veronica Tan is the founder of non-profit organisation Waroeng Imaji. Founded in 2017, the NGO primarily raises funds and promotes initiatives to serve the children in Rumah Susun, or public-housing apartment blocks in Jakarta.
Tan also supports women’s enterprises that create Jakarta-themed souvenirs through her business with media personality Iwet Ramadhan. Today, Tan’s business portfolio includes investments in healthcare and a premium meat brand called Alpha Agro Indonesia, which she founded in 2019.
Tan first became a public figure as the wife of the former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (better known as Ahok). The couple has since split amicably, but during his tenure, she was the chair of the Regional National Craft Council.
The Medan-born social entrepreneur also champions cultural efforts, particularly as a board member at Yayasan Mitra Museum Jakarta. Through her work, she champions the development and inclusiveness of museums in the capital.
