From head-turning red carpet couture to crisp power suits, Ummi Nazeera reflects on the evolution of her modern modest wardrobe and why true style matures alongside you
At Tatler Ball 2025, Ummi Nazeera’s entrance was genuinely breathtaking. She wore a custom look by Fiziwoo: scarlet, satin, heavily beaded and embellished, topped with a pillbox hat in matching scarlet. It was a challenging look, but not for Ummi. In person she is slight of frame and soft-spoken in demeanour, but with a charisma that carries any look she tries her hand at. (She also later reworked said custom Fiziwoo Ball look for a KLFW outing—rewearing pieces being the mark of a truly stylish person.)
“I would describe my style as modern modest,” she tells us. “I love timeless pieces that feel effortless. Comfort is also very important to me because I believe when you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, your confidence naturally shines through.” Of course, comfort in fashion is a spectrum—for Ummi, this can mean lounging in towering Rick Owens boots, doing the street style walk in oversized Behati or attending weddings in impeccably fitted traditional wear.
“As long as it doesn’t go against my beliefs, I enjoy experimenting with adventurous silhouettes and fresh interpretations of modest fashion. A power suit is probably when I feel most like myself. Whether it’s in earthy tones or classic black, I love clean silhouettes paired with a hijab and minimal accessories. When I was younger, I was more experimental and followed trends more closely. Over time, I’ve become much more intentional with my wardrobe. Now I invest in quality, timeless pieces that I know I’ll still love years from now. I think my style has matured with me—it feels calmer, more refined, and more authentic.”
I think fashion should evolve with you while still staying true to who you are.
