Tung-Chieh Chuang

Musician

Born into a musical family, Tung-Chieh Chuang, son of Szu-yuan Chuang, once known as Father of French Horn in Taiwan, learned piano and French horn from a young age. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in statistics from Purdue University, he returned to classical music and decided to study conducting at the Curtis Institute of Music in the US and Hochschule für Musik Liszt Weimar in Germany. From 2013 to 2015, he won medals in the three major worldwide conducting competitions, comprising the Bamberg Symphony Gustav Mahler Conducting Competition, the Sir Georg Solti International Conductors' Competition and Malko International Conductors Competition, which made him a top pick to partner with the world’s best orchestras including Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Münchner Philharmoniker. Tung-Chieh now serves as a guest conductor for various European orchestras, including Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra from Sweden, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra from Norway, and Oper Frankfurt and Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra in Germany. He has performed extensively throughout the world and is honoured as the pride of music in Taiwan.
