Singer and Songwriter
Singer-songwriter Muhammad Tulus has dominated Indonesia’s music scene since 2011 with his debut album titled in his mononym, Tulus. Flavoured with pop, jazz pop and R&B grooves, Rolling Stone Indonesia awarded him with the Top Spot in the January and February 2012 listings, along with Rookie of the Year in 2013. Tulus has since released two more albums—Gajah in 2014 and Monokrom in 2016—all of which are under Tulus Company, an independent music label he manages with his older brother Riri Muktamar. Gajah, “christened after his nickname growing up”, was the largest CD production with 88,000 copies sold, and was the only Indonesian music album that was listed for two months in a row on the Top 10 Best Selling Music Album in iTunes Asia. The gentle giant, standing at 1.86m tall, has gone on to direct his own music videos, perform overseas, and coach The Voice Kids Indonesia (2016 - 2017). He has garnered “49 trophies from some 98 nominations in various awards” including 13 trophies from the Indonesia’s Grammys Anugerah Muzik, and was named Male Singer of the Year at the 2017 Indonesia Choice Awards.
