Architect, co-founder, Tropical Space
Pioneering more sustainable buildings in Vietnam
Architect Trần Thị Ngụ Ngôn is the co-founder of Tropical Space, one of Vietnam’s leading architectural practices, known for its minimalist design philosophy that harnesses natural ventilation and light to adapt seamlessly to tropical climates. She places particular emphasis on raw materials such as terracotta brick for their environmental benefits, durability, affordability and long-term safety.
With more than two decades in the profession, Ngụ Ngôn has created a body of work defined by originality and sensitivity where contemporary spirit is intertwined with indigenous culture. Among her most recognised projects are Termitary House, Wasp House, Terra Cotta Studio, LT House, Chicken’s House and Long An House. Each reflects her ability to balance tradition with a vision for sustainable development, shaping an architectural language that carries a distinctly Vietnamese identity in a modern form.
In 2025, Trần Thị Ngụ Ngôn was named one of only two female architects worldwide to receive the DIVIA Award (Diversity in Architecture), an international accolade celebrating women who have made outstanding contributions to the global architectural landscape. The recognition not only affirms her individual talent, but also places Vietnamese architecture on the international stage, demonstrating that indigenous values can serve as powerful sources of global inspiration.
