Chairman of THACO
A leading entrepreneur who has shaped Vietnam’s automotive and real estate industries
After graduating from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology in 1983, Tran Ba Duong undertook various roles to gain industry experience. In 1997, he founded Truong Hai Automobile Company Limited, initially focusing on trading and repairing used cars—marking the first step in what would become Vietnam’s largest automobile manufacturing, assembly, and distribution enterprise.
Since 2018, with a strategic vision for ASEAN regional integration, he has led THACO’s transformation into a diversified conglomerate, fostering synergy across multiple industries.
Under his leadership, THACO has evolved into a multi-industry powerhouse, playing a pivotal role in Vietnam’s economic landscape. The group now operates across six key sectors: THACO AUTO (automotive), THACO INDUSTRIES (mechanical engineering and supporting industries), THACO AGRI (agriculture), THADICO (construction investment), THISO (trade and services), and THILOGI (logistics). With a workforce of over 60,000 employees, THACO contributes more than $1 billion to Vietnam’s budget annually.
