Owner, Artha Graha Group
Founded by tycoon businessman Tomy Winata, Artha Graha Group’s sectors range from property, hospitality, banking and agro-businesses. Back in 1988, Winata started Artha Graha Group together with the Kartika Eka Paksi Foundation with the purchase and revitalisation of Bank Propelat, which was later renamed Bank Artha Graha.
Later in 1997, Winata worked with Bank Indonesia in a similar move to help resuscitate the ailing Bank Arta Pusara, which was renamed Bank Arta Pratama. In 2003, he took over Bank Inter-Pacific.
Apart from his financial prowess, Winata continued to expand his businesses in property with Jakarta International Hotels and Development, Hotel Borobudur and Danayasa Arhatama, which turned into the development of Sudirman Central Business District. He was also a key figure in reviving interest in the construction of the Sunda Strait Bridge, which is planned to connect the major Indonesian islands of Sumatra and Java.
