Senior counsel Thio Shen Yi is the joint managing partner of TSMP Law Corporation, a firm he runs with his wife Stefanie Yuen Thio. He is considered a leading disputes lawyer and one of the most influential figures in Singapore’s legal community, having won several awards and presided over a number of benchmark cases.

Thio studied law at St John’s College, Cambridge University and graduated in 1991. He was called to the Bar in 1993, plying his trade as counsel and occasional arbitrator, and appointed senior counsel in 2008. Thio was appointed as a Master Bencher of the Middle Temple in 2016, an honorary elected position that has been conferred on only six members from Singapore in more than 700 years of history. He is also a director at Law Society Pro Bono Services.

Some of Thio’s more prominent cases include acting as legal advisor to Mizuho Bank, the largest unsecured creditor, in respect of the SG$3.5 billion re-structuring of Hyflux Group, and representing private investor Peter Lim in his successful defence against claims of over SG$150 million made by Raffles Town Club, in 2009.
